Chalkboard Painted Flower Pots

With the warmer weather on the way, I can't help but get excited for spring! I love plants, and flowers, and gardens! But, I do not have a "green thumb". In fact the only indoor/outdoor plants that I have been able to keep alive are a few Hen and Chicks that sit on our window sill in the living room. I am 99% sure the only reason they are still living is because they require almost no care... which is great for me! I may be a little bit forgetful when it comes to watering and taking care of the plants. But! Since I am home almost all the time now with my daughter, I think I will be able to remember to keep a few plants alive. I have purchased one plant already and hope to get more over the next couple of months.

I found an idea on Pinterest to spray paint flower pots using chalkboard paint. Then using chalk write the names of the plant on the pot, and if you are me, copy the information from the tag that comes with the plant onto the pot as well! I have spray painted one pot already and written the information down that I need to help me remember how much sunlight, water, and care I need to give the plant that will sit in the pot.

First I started out with a terra cotta flower pot that I picked up at the dollar store, and some black chalkboard paint. I sprayed a few thin coats of paint on the pot, wrote down the name of the plant, and stuck it in the pot! Easy! Now I have a potted plant, a cheat sheet, and a beautiful flower in my window sill! Now it is really starting to feel like spring!

What are some of your favourite ways to get ready for spring? Do you like to do a full clean on your entire house? Or are you like me, and try bring beautiful plants or bouquets of flowers into your home? I am so excited for the spring time because it means that summer (my favourite time of the year) is just around the corner!

  1. I love this idea!! When I feel like it SHOULD be spring, I get a lot of plants sitting in my window to encourage the ones outside the window to grow... I love the chalkboard idea! (Since mine often die or get planted outside when it's nice enough) I can just change up the name!@

  4. This looks so pretty...I love it. I did something similar to create favors for my son's baptism party. I spray-painted the flower pots silver:
