A Gift For a Neighbor

Every year I like to give my next door neighbors a little something for Christmas. Last year we gave chocolate turtles (yum), but this year I decided to make something from scratch. Cue Pinterest

I found a great list of gift ideas from here. From cookies and homemade bread, to giving coffee creamer to go along with a hot cup of coffee. There were lots of options to choose from, but one idea stood out. It was a recipe for homemade caramel apple dip.

I got out the supplies, and started to cook.

It was a very simple recipe to follow, and didn't take long for the ingredients to start to combine and make a delicious concoction.

From the beginning to the end this took me about 10 minutes to make. I am so excited to put the dip in a pretty jar and present it to my neighbors with a bunch of granny smith apples.

Aunt Kay's Buttery Caramel Sauce

3/4 cup brown sugar
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup corn syrup
1/3 cup butter
2/3 cup whipping cream
*Makes 2 1/2 cups
In a medium saucepan combine sugars, syrup and butter.
Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until mixture comes to a full boil, about 5 – 6 minutes.

Remove from heat and cool 5 minutes.
Stir in whipping cream.
Pour into a jar and store in refrigerator.  It will thicken when cold.

Giving gifts at Christmas doesn't have to be complicated, or expensive. All it takes is a little bit of time and thought. I know my neighbors will appreciate the gesture, and I am excited to give it to them. I might even make some more for my family!

Merry Christmas from my family to yours! I hope you enjoy the time you have with family and friends over this holiday.
