Getting Cozy: My Favourite Books

One way I get cozy as the cooler weather starts, is to settle on the couch with a blanket, a cup of tea, and a good book. I find that it is very difficult to find a good book unless you are immersed in the book world or if you have a friend who loves to read and gives you suggestions.

There are many options and the worst thing is to buy a book, go home, open it up, read it and become completely disappointed because it was not what you were looking for. So as someone who was once immersed in the book world (I use to work at a bookstore) and as a friend who loves to read, here are my favourite books.
First up is Lisa Genova. I was finding difficulty finding words to describe her books (besides that they are awesome) and then I found this quote by Craig Wilson from USA Today: “Genova is a master of getting into the heads of her characters, relating from the inside out what it’s like to suffer from a debilitating disease. How she does it we don’t know, but she does, and brilliantly.” (via www.lisagenova.com) You won't be disappointed.

Next are Jane Austen's Emma and Pride and Prejudice. Do these need any explanation? If you have never read Jane Austen, my personal favourite is Emma and then Pride and Prejudice. Keep with them, because they are worth it!
It seems like everyone has read The Help by Kathryn Stockett, but if you haven't, you should. I read it before it was released to bookstores (a perk of working behind the scenes was the advanced copies!) and this book grabbed my attention from the beginning. You get a behind the scenes look at the lives of African-American women working in white households in the heart of Jackson, Mississippi in the 1960's.
The second one, is The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger. I think I have read this book four times. It is a love story between a man, who has a genetic disorder which makes him time travel, and his wife. The story begins when his wife is a young girl and their first meeting and then continues as they build a live together, while struggling to live through time traveling experiences.
You can't go wrong with Francine Rivers. Seriously. Her writing draws you instantly and makes you not want the story to end. I listed a few of my absolute favourites below.
Kit Pearson is a Canadian author who is actually listed in the young adults section, but her writing is incredible. All of her books are great, but this trilogy is my favourite. The three books follow a young girl and her brother as they leave England and go to Canada during World War Two.
I saved the best for last. Kate Morton. Her writing is out of this world. The way that she writes captures your thoughts and carries the stories with you even after you have finished the book. In each of her books, she follows an individual in the present to a situation that has happened in the past. You will be wondering and guessing the mystery the whole way through the book. Read them.

So there are my favourites. What about you? Do you have any suggestions for me?

This is day four of our 31 days Getting Cozy series.
