Thick Sugar Cookies

Here is another recipe for you to use around the Christmas season to impress your family and guests.

This is a really quick and easy recipe for sugar cookies that are soft, and easy to decorate. I have used it a few times in the past, and the cookies have always turned out great.

 Thick Sugar Cookies
revised from a recipe found here
  • 1 cup butter
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 3 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2 tsp. baking soda
  • 5 1/2 cups flour
In a bowl, cream together butter and sugar. Next, add the eggs and vanilla, followed by the sour cream. In a separate bowl combine salt, baking soda, and flour then add it to the mixture.

Once you have mixed all of the ingredients together, you can roll the cookie dough out onto a floured surface (I like to just roll it straight on the counter) to about 1/4 inch thick.

Next you can use cookie cutters to cut out shapes of your choice. Place the shapes on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper.

Bake in a preheated oven at 375 for 7-8 minutes. When you take them out of the oven they will not looked all the way cooked - but they are. Do not over bake. Let them cool for about 5 minutes then remove them from the cookie sheet and place them on a cooling rack. Once they have cooled completely you can whip up your favourite frosting recipe and start decorating! Enjoy!
